Aquatic Physical Therapy

Water has been used as a therapeutic medium since time immemorial. At Jack D. Close and Associates Physical Therapy, pictured here is the SPECIALLY DESIGNED THERAPEUTIC POOL for use in rehabilitation. The major difference between our pool and other pools in the Las Vegas valley is that our pool programs are SUPERVISED BY QUALIFIED PHYSICAL THERAPISTS. Water has certain attributes that make it superior to air as a medium for exercising.

The buoyancy of water helps to reduce joint compression. This property allows for earlier weight bearing following injury or surgery. Also, because of the buoyancy forces of water, range of motion exercises can be initiated earlier in rehabilitation without causing undo stress to the healing tissues and bone. Water is also denser than air, thus allowing for increased resistance against movement. This property enables effective feedback from strengthening exercises and decreases the speed of movement. Both of these things are important during rehabilitation. The higher temperature of the water (we keep our pool at 95° F) allows relaxation of muscle, thus facilitating pain management during exercise. An important goal of aquatic therapy is to establish a program that the individual will be able to continue independently at a pool, lake, or spa.

Conditions that benefit from aquatic therapy include, but are not limited to, rehabilitation following joint replacements, sprains and strains to any joint, fractures, athletic injuries, and back injury. Other conditions that benefit from aquatic therapy are fibromyalgia, arthritis, and brain injury. At Jack D. Close and Associates, each patient who receives AQUATIC REHABILITATION will participate in a program that is custom designed and MONITORED BY A QUALIFIED PHYSICAL THERAPIST.
